Here's a little snippet of CSS you can play with to add a little snippet of TEXT at the TOP of your page. Added at the bottom of your CSS, it would be quite easy to use this area as a status update that you could change daily or often. Or just use it as part of your permanent page design.
Depending on your current theme, you decide how much text to use, font, etc. Replace your own message between the quotes and play with the MARGIN a little to fit your particular theme or customization.
NOTE: This is not visible in older versions of IE but before and after does work in IE8 and other browsers like FF and Safari. (I didn't test this in Chrome)
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Using compatibility mode in IE8 for Multiply will hide before and afters. I don't use compatibility mode here and haven't found a reason as yet to have to do so. (VIEW, COMPATIBILITY SETTINGS)
(You can also use margin-right instead if you'd prefer to position from the right instead of the left)
OR - If you find that the code above interferes with your site, try this to get the same effect (adjusting the margin left or margin right to suit you)
